Microsoft | Sofware | How to Send Text File to the Clipboard contents via the Send to menu | We've previously covered how to send the contents of a text file to the Windows Clipboard with simple Sent to shortcut, but what if you want to do otherwise? Ie: send clipboard contents to a text file with a simple shortcut.

Here is how.
Copy ClipOut Utilities

While Windows offers a command-line tool 'clip' as a way to direct the console output to the clipboard, do not have the means to direct the clipboard contents to the console. To do this, we will use a small utility called ClipOut (download link at the bottom).

Simply download and extract the file to a location in your Windows PATH variable (if you do not know what this means, just extract the EXE to C: folder \ Windows) and you are ready to go.
Add Post to Shortcut

Open your Send To folder location by going to Run> shell: sendto

Create a new shortcut with the command:

CMD / C ClipOut>

Note the above command will overwrite the contents of the selected file. If you want to add to the contents of the selected files, use this command instead:

CMD / C ClipOut >>

Of course, you can create a shortcut for a second.

Give a descriptive name for the shortcut.

You are done. Using this shortcut will now send the contents of the text copied to the Windows Clipboard to the selected file.

It is important to note that the tool only supports ClipOut produce text. If you have a binary data copied to the clipboard then the output will be empty.
changing Icon

By default, the icon for the shortcut will appear as a command prompt, but you can easily change this by editing the properties of the shortcut and click the Change Icon button. We use the icon located in the "% SystemRoot% \ System32 \ shell32.dll", but any icons to your liking will do.

Additionally tweak, you can set the properties of the shortcut to run minimized. This will prevent the command window from the "blink" when sending the command is executed (it will flash on your taskbar that is barely noticeable).
