Microsoft | Sofware | How to Disable Office 2013 on the Start Screen | When you open an Office 2013 program, the welcome screen automatically displays showing you various templates available and a list of recently opened documents in the left column. If you find this annoying screen and would rather pass by, it's easy to disable.

To do this, we will make changes to the registry.

NOTE: Before making changes to the registry, make sure you back it up. We also recommend creating a restore point that you can use to restore your system if something goes wrong.

To open the registry editor, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Enter "regedit" (without the quotes) in the Open edit box and click OK.

If the User Account Control dialog box displays, click Yes to continue.

NOTE: You may not see this dialog box, depending on your User Account Control settings.

Navigate to the following key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 15.0 \ Common \ General

Look for a key called DisableBootToOfficeStart, listed in the right pane. If not on the list, make by right clicking on the General button in the tree on the left (or the empty space in the right pane) and move the cursor over the New on the menu popup and select DWORD (32 - bit) Value from the popup menu sub.

New value called New Value # 1 by default and the text will be highlighted.

Change the name to DisableBootToOfficeStart and double-click on it.

Change the value in the Value data edit box to 1 and click OK. This disables the Start screen in all Office 2013 applications.

Displayed value changes 1.

If you want to disable the Start screen for a certain Office 2013 applications, you can do so by navigating to the Options button for the desired application. For example, to disable the Start Screen to Word, navigate to the following key and lock DisableBootToOfficeStart added, if necessary, and set its value to 1, as described above.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 15.0 \ Word \ Options

To close the Registry Editor, choose Exit from the File menu.

To undo this change and activate the Start screen in all Office applications or specific, DisableBootToOfficeStart change the value to 0 or delete the value.
