Microsoft | Sofware | How to Install Applications on SD Card Windows 8 | Tutorials Install Applications on SD Card Windows 8 Tricks and Tips to Install Applications on SD Card Windows 8, Windows 8 creates a folder named WindowsApps under the Program Files directory located in the root of the drive the Windows installation and install all applications Modern at this location by default.

Complete instructions for setting up the SD card as the default installation location to store applications in Windows 8 mentioned below.

Note: We recommend that you make a point Pugar manual system before changing the default system settings.

Step 1: Adding a microSD memory card tablet or your laptop (See the instruction manual for your tablet owners) and back up all the contents of the SD card to a safe location. Please note that some, including Microsoft Surface tablet may not support more than 64GB memory card.

Step 2: Before you edit the registry to change the location of the installation, we need to first make sure that the SD memory card is formatted NTFS file system. To do this, right click on the SD card in My Computer (Computer), and then click Properties.

If the FAT32 or FAT file system, right click on the SD card again, click Format, choose NTFS as the file system, and then click the Start button to start formatting the memory card.

Note that formatting will erase all data on the SD card. Be sure to backup data before formatting the memory card. If the memory card is in the NTFS file system, you do not need to format.

Step 3: Being able to change the installation location of the application, we need to take ownership of registry keys that we will edit the Registry Editor tool with the help of the original. If you try to edit the registry key mentioned below without ownership, you will see a "can not edit PackageRoot: error writing new content value" error.

While it is possible to take ownership of the registry without using a third party tool, we will use a free tool called RegOwnershipEx to keep the procedure simple.

Download the zip file RegOwnershipEx, extract the contents of the folder to see two folders named Windows 7 and Windows 8. 8 Open the Windows folder, and then double-click on the folder x86 or x64 depending on which version you are running Windows 8, and then double-click on the file to start the same RegOwnershipEx.exe.

Step 4: Once the program is launched, enter the following registry key in the registry key select box, click the button to take ownership and then click on the open button to open the Registry Editor keys required in the Windows Registry Editor.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Appx

Step 5: On the right side, double-click on PackageRoot and change the default value of the data to the location of the SD memory card. For example, if the SD card drive letter "G", then enter G: \ in the Value data box, and then click the Ok button to set the SD card as the default location for applications.

We recommend that you create a new folder under the root of the SD card and insert the folder path so that you can use the SD card to store other files too. Ie, create a folder named WinApps on SD card, insert G: \ WinApps (replace "G" to the SD card drive letter) as the location of the data value in the box.

Closing programs and RegOwnershipEx Registry Editor, and then reboot your PC. Now every time you install a new application store, Windows 8 will install them on the SD card.
