Microsoft | Sofware | How To Boot Directly to the Desktop in Windows 8.1 | Microsoft's decision to remove the Start menu and replace the same with the home screen in Windows 8 does not go well with end users because most users of XP, Vista, and Windows 7 is an upgrade to Windows 8 Start menu installed third party programs, disabled the home screen or use the program to pass the initial screen to boot directly to the desktop.


To help the users desktop see the desktop environment without having to click on the desktop tile on the home screen when you sign-in, Microsoft has introduced the option boot directly to the desktop in Windows 8.1. This option is useful to millions of desktop and laptop users who use desktop program to get things done and spend most of their time in the desktop environment. More often than not, they want to see the desktop as soon they get into their PC.

This is not a third-party software developed for Windows 8 is not good enough to get past the home screen but it is always better to have the original option of using a third party program.

How to enable the boot to the desktop in Windows 8.1:

Step 1: Right-click an empty space on the Taskbar, and then click Properties to open the Taskbar and navigation properties.



Step 2: Switch to tab navigation.

Step 3: Here, check the option entitled to go to the desktop not starting when I entered. Click the Apply button.



From next time onwards, whenever you sign in, you will see the desktop rather than the home screen.
